How to Make a Sunset Cruise in St. Thomas Absolutely Perfect

Whether you’re a true romantic or just someone who enjoys being out on the water, a sunset cruise in St. Thomas may be one of the most romantic and unique experiences anyone can enjoy. Simply being there to witness the sounds and smells of the fresh air and water and the stunning colors of the setting sun may be absolutely perfect all on its own.

There are some things that you can do, however, to ensure that the evening remains as blissful as possible from beginning to end.

Pick the Right Place

There are dozens of breathtaking destinations in St. Thomas for people to go and watch the sun dip below the horizon; and while none of them will disappoint, there are a few that take the cake. Essentially, you want to be on either the northern or southern side of the island to ensure that you can look west to watch the sunset. On the southern side, you can explore the waters around Water Island or on the northern side, consider circling Hans Lollik Island for incredible views.

Have Some Snacks...and Maybe Some Drinks

Depending on when your St. Thomas sunset cruise is scheduled, you may want to have some snacks on board to keep you from getting hungry. In St. Thomas, the sun sets later in the spring and early summer, between 6:30 pm and 7:00 pm; in the fall and winter, the sun sets between 5:40 pm and 6:30 pm. You’ll want to plan your dinner and snacking around these times to ensure you’re comfortable for the cruise. For some romantic cruise food, try strawberries, cheeses, and chocolate. If you’re in the mood for some adult beverages, a bottle of wine or champagne are the perfect choices.

Play Some Tunes

You may be perfectly content listening to the sounds of the ocean, the birds in the air, and the water lapping against your boat. But if you want some music to enhance the mood, make sure to have a playlist selected and downloaded before you head out on your cruise. If you want to be wrapped in Caribbean culture, create a playlist that features calypso music or soca music. Other popular genres include fungi, meringue, reggae, and salsa. For a more relaxing or calming environment, classical music is also a great choice.

Bring Some Essentials

The focus of your sunset cruise will of course be the sunset! But to keep your time on the water relaxing and easy, there are some essentials you can bring. Consider having a small carry-on type bag for a light jacket, a camera, sunglasses (for when the sun is still higher in the sky), seasickness medication if necessary, and a towel. Although you most likely will stay on the boat during the cruise, there’s always a chance of getting splashed with waves.

Now that you have what you need for an absolutely perfect sunset cruise, all you need to do is remember to relax! It can be easy to get caught up in taking pictures and having fun with the people you’re with, but don’t forget to sit back and watch the sunset! There is a truly magical moment when the last rays of the sun begin to fall below the horizon, and you don’t want to miss it!
